Godzilla Animated Series Season 2, Never Released On Home Video, Heads To Youtube

According to Bloody Disgusting, the second season will be available on June 6, 2022.

“Godzilla” featured the famous Japanese monster and a whole suite of new kaiju to battle. None of the regular villains – Rodan, King Ghidorah, Barugon, Mothra, King Kong – appeared in the anime series, replaced by monsters with names like Macro-Spider Crab, Axor, Breeder Beast and the Great Watchuka. The familiar enemies of Godzilla made their first television appearances in the 1973 tokusatsu series “Zone Fighter”. In the 1978 series, Godzilla himself didn’t quite resemble previous iterations of the famous monster, looking more like a tyrannosaurus rex.

From the YouTube preview description:

Coming next week to Toho’s official international “Godzilla” YouTube channel is the highly anticipated second season of the classic ’70s animated series, “Godzilla.” Unreleased on home video and rarely seen in over 40 years, this second season is exclusive to the channel and will take viewers back to the Saturday morning adventures of Godzilla and his lovable sidekick, Godzooky. The 13 episodes of Season 2 first aired in 1979 and will join the 13 episodes of Season 1 exclusively on the channel.

It’s certainly worth noting that Godzooky – a 10-foot-tall, ineffective, dragon-like doofus – is unloved, serving as the Scrappy-Doo of the Godzilla universe. Like Scrappy-Doo, however, Godzooky has his own weird sequel: He was once said to be dating Lorna Luft.

The first season of the 1978 “Godzilla” anime series is already available on Toho’s “Godzilla” YouTube channel.
