WAVERLY – For the fourth year in a row, the holiday decorations at Amberly Dental in Waverly will have special meaning.
The Christmas tree in the front lobby of the dental office is adorned with labels with the names of residents of Azria Health Waverly (formerly the Waverly Care Center), according to Dr Tim Vacek, owner of Amberly Dental.
âThe way it works is anyone can stop and take a name,â Vacek said. “There will be gift suggestions on it.”
Suggestions could include, but are not limited to, blankets, puzzles, perfume or cologne, books, crosswords or candles, Vacek said.
Vacek said he chose to set up the donation tree for the residents of the care center, as many do not have families to visit them during the holidays.
âThey can’t wait to see this,â he said.
Last year, they helped around 50 residents and are on track to provide gifts for around the same amount. There are 47 names on the tree to give away, Vacek said.
After choosing a name, wrapped gifts must be returned to the dental office by December 20 so they can be delivered before Christmas, Vacek said.
The dentist and his staff usually throw a small party when they bring the gifts to the residents, but with the COVID-19 pandemic in the region last year, those plans were scrapped. This year, the pandemic is a factor in planning this event again, so Vacek said they don’t know what will happen when they deliver the gifts.
